Dans un premier temps, prenant comme idée centrale le caractère essentiellement métaphorique de la communication humaine, j’explorerai ces types de procédés dans le domaine du langage pour ensuite les amener vers les sciences cognitives et la musique. Ensuite, m’appuyant sur des écrits scientifiques, philosophiques et littéraires, je créerai un lien entre la métaphore, vue en tant que création d’images, et une « quête de soi » philosophique, qui aurait son équivalent dans la configuration biologique de notre cerveau et l’émergence de notre conscience. Enfin, considérant la musique comme expérience et pratique complexe comportant de multiples processus métaphoriques, je proposerai d’envisager l’invention musicale comme exercice d’« auto-création », où le musicien, en tant que sujet actif, cherche avec son travail à créer des chaînes de métaphores pointant vers un horizon de sens en flux continu. I suggest the idea of the musician as an individual on a subjective quest, working with the different languages of music and aiming at generating sound-images carrying new forms of meaning. First, based on the central idea of the metaphoric character of human communication, I explore some of these procedures of spoken language and link them to the domains of cognitive science and music. Secondly, based on scientific, philosophic and literary writings, I connect the idea of metaphor seen as the creation of images and a self-discovery philosophical process with the biological configuration of our brain as well with the emergence of consciousness. Susciter des œuvres qui définissent l’identité d’un jeune interprète et celle de son instrument m’a tout naturellement conduit à accueillir au sein de ma classe de nombreux compositeurs. Ces rencontres ont largement dépassé mes objectifs en matière de quantité d’œuvres nouvelles, de connaissance des langages musicaux et de capacité à les partager. Elles sont devenues une culture. La transmettre dans toute sa réalité humaine est toujours l’un de mes projets les plus vivaces. Testimony My musical activity is strongly motivated by the development of repertoire and the search for new paths for saxophonists in today’s artistic world. I have always had the strong desire to commission new pieces that reveal the identity of young players and their instrument; therefore I began very early to invite composers into my saxophone class. These meetings largely exceeded expectations with regards to the quantity of new pieces, knowledge of musical languages and the ability to share. They have become a culture.
